Student Visa Information

This page is designed to provide you with easy access to the information you require. The Department of Immigration and Multicultural and Indigenous Affairs' Form 1160i provides information on student visa applications including student visa requirements and conditions.

The enrolment procedure in relation to Immigration requirements is of concern for some students. The requirements vary according to which country you come from, your major course of study, and whether or not you are applying for your visa from within Australia or from overseas.

Who need to Apply for a Student Visa?

Prospective international students intending to study in Australia must obtain a student visa from an Australian Diplomatic Mission in their home country before embarking for Australia.
If you are from a country with an assessment level other than 1, you must apply from outside Australia using Form157A unless you are under exceptional circumstances.
The main requirements for a visa application are:

  • A Letter of Offer from Victory Institute of Professional Training
  • An Electronic Confirmation of Enrolment (eCoE) form from Victory Institute of Professional Training after the respective fees and charges has been paid.
  • A medical check-up as required by regulation.
  • Proof of financial support as required by regulation.
  • Citizens of certain countries may need to obtain a Pre-Visa Assessment from the Australian Diplomatic Mission before making any payment to Victory Institute of Professional Training.

Your student visa will be issued for the duration of the Victory Institute of Professional Training course as stated in the eCoE form that you will receive from Victory Institute of Professional Training.

Maintain your visa

All international students must comply with current visa conditions and regulations determined by the Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC).

Conditions Include:

  • Study full-time while in Australia.
  • Satisfy course requirements and must attend a minimum of 70% of all scheduled classes and achieve a record of satisfactory academic performance.
  • Maintain a valid enrolment at Victory Institute of Professional Training
  • Students are required to advise Victory Institute of Professional Training of any changes to their Australian address within seven days.
  • Have sufficient funds to cover course fees and living expenses while in Australia.
  • Not work for more than 20 hours a week during semester (additional visa required).
  • Maintain Overseas Student Health Cover.
  • Students cannot change education provider for the first 6 months of their principal course without submitting an application and obtaining a release letter from their current institution.
  • Students must inform DIAC if they change their student status.
  • Students must inform DIAC if they withdraw from the course that they are enrolled in.
  • Students must extend their student visa before it expires.

Dependants

It is important for all prospective international students to understand that any school age dependants who come to Australia with them will be required to pay full fees if enrolled in a government or non-government school.

Work opportunities

International students who are currently enrolled and attending classes may apply for a work visa and if granted can work up to 20 hours per week while studying and full-time during the semester breaks. It is not possible for the income from your part-time work to cover your study and living costs. To apply for permission to work you need to fill out Form157P once you have started your studies

Once you find a job and start working in Australia you will have to apply for a Tax File Number. Application forms are available from Post Offices or on the ato website www.ato.gov.au This form along with three forms of identification must be taken to an Australian Taxation Office. The ATO will mail your tax file number to you within a few weeks.

Assessment Level

General Procedure of Visa application for assessment level 1 & 2
  1. Fill out an enrolment form and send to Victory Institute of Professional Training along with a copy of your passport, a copy of certificates from previous studies undertaken, English proficiency certificate (IELTS test preferred), and enrolment fee.
  2. Receive a Letter of Offer and an Invoice (if you require one).
  3. Pay course fees and health cover shown on the letter of offer to Victory Institute of Professional Training Bank Account.
  4. Receive an Electronic Conformation of Enrolment (eCoE) and receipt from Victory Institute of Professional Training.
  5. Undergo medical examination.
  6. Take the following with you to the Australian Embassy to apply for student visa
  • Completed relevant parts of Student Visa Application Form
  • Letter of Offer
  • Supporting documentation specified in the visa application booklet:
    (a) Evidence of previous studies undertaken,
    (b) Evidence that you have sufficient funds ($12,000 per year living costs)
    (c) English Proficiency certificate (IELTS Test Results), and;
    (d) Passport and 4 recent passport photographs.
  • Student Visa Application Fee.
  • Await visa approval.

General Procedure of Visa application for assessment level 3 & 4

  1. Fill out an enrolment form and send to Victory Institute of Professional Training along with a copy of your passport, a copy of certificates from previous studies undertaken, English proficiency certificate (IELTS test preferred), and enrolment fee.
  2. Victory Institute of Professional Training sends you a Letter of Offer and an Invoice (if you require one).
  3. Take the following with you to Australian Embassy to apply for Pre-Visa Assessment (PVA).
  • Completed relevant parts of Student Visa Application Form
  • Letter of Offer
  • Supporting documentation specified in the visa application booklet


    (a) Evidence of previous studies undertaken,
    (b) Evidence that you have enough funds ($12,000 per year living costs),
    (c) English Proficiency certificate (IELTS Test Results), and;
    (d) Passport and 4 recent passport photographs.

  • Student Visa Application Fee.
  1. On successful Pre-Visa Assessment, receive a PVA approval letter to give to your education provider authorising them to issue you with an eCoE.
  2. Undergo medical examination.
  3. Pay course fee and health cover shown on the letter of offer to Victory Institute of Professional Training Account.
  4. Provide Victory Institute of Professional Training PVA Letter.
  5. Receive the Electronic Confirmation of Enrolment (e CoE) receipt from Victory Institute of Professional Training.
  6. Send the e-CoE and payment receipt to Australian Embassy.
  7. Await visa approval.

ESOS FRAMEWORK

Training organisations that appear on the Commonwealth Register of Institutes and Courses for Overseas Students (CRICOS) register are governed by the Education Services for Overseas Students (ESOS) framework.

This includes a number of legislative pieces, including the ESOS Act 2000 and the National Code of Practice for Registration Authorities and Providers of Education and Training to Overseas Students. These regulations are in place to protect overseas students and to uphold high quality standards within Australian education institutes
