Trainer Qualifications Our courses are conducted in English by qualified and experienced trainers who have years of experience in the Hairdressing and Printing and Graphic pre press industries. Assessment Assessment Assessment is conducted in accordance with the National Assessment Principles. Assessment is competency based against the standards outlined in the units of competency in the Training Package. It includes: - assessment to determine your training needs
- assessment during the training to judge how you are progressing
- assessment of performance at the end of the units of training
- recognition of prior learning or recognition of current competency
Assessment is conducted in a simulated workplace and involves the collection of sufficient evidence to demonstrate you are competent. This may include: - Measurement of products you have made or services you deliver
- Observation of processes you carry out
- Measurement of your knowledge and understanding
- Observation of the attitudes you demonstrate.
- Assessment Activities are customised by the addition of tasks that are authentic to the workplace or the industry e.g.
- Observation of a hairdressing student colouring hair or cutting hair.
- Judgment of a printing & Graphic arts (pre-press) students advertising design
- The Learning requirements and assessment tasks are no more difficult than those required in the performance of the job.
- Reasonable adjustment to assessment activities may be made when the requirements of the unit of competency are not affected e.g. Oral question and answer may replace written question and answer. These adjustments are made in response to individual students identified need at enrolment.
Assessment methods may involve you in: - Demonstration of skills
- Production of a piece of work
- Written and/or oral questions
- Group discussions
- A portfolio of work
- Oral presentations
- Conduct of a project
On enrolment you will be given information on the course including the units of competency incorporated in the course and the assessment activities to be completed. You are encouraged to check the development of your skills and knowledge and indicate your readiness for assessment. The outcomes of assessment are C for Competent or NYC for Not Yet Competent. Those assessed as NYC (Not Yet Competent) can request a re-assessment. During the course your trainer will maintain your individual assessment records in hard and soft copy. If you are dissatisfied with a Not Yet Competent decision for an assessment task/s you can appeal the decision. This involves speaking to the assessor to request a review of the evidence and justifying the need for a re-assessment. It may require you to provide further evidence. If you are still dissatisfied with a Not Yet Competent decision the principal may organise for an external and independent assessor to review the evidence.
